Description

The Sterilisation Ckerk is responsible for ensuring that all items used in patient care are properly cleaned, prepared, and sterilized to eliminate microorganisms. The role supports the efficient operation of the Central Sterile Supply Department by maintaining accurate records, ensuring adequate supplies, and adhering to infection control standards. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Responsibilities/ Requirements

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Sterilization Preparation & Processing

  • Prepare gauze, swabs, linen, and other supplies for sterilisation.
  • Receive items from patient care areas and prepare them for processing.
  • Ensure all items are appropriately handled in accordance with infection control standards.

Cleaning & Infection Control

  • Disinfect and clean all work areas using approved cleaning agents at the start and end of each shift.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with hospital policies.
  • Clean, disinfect, and prepare all instruments received from the Operating Room and other wards or departments of the hospital in accordance with established infection control standards.

Inventory & Supply Management

  • Assist in ensuring the department is adequately stocked with required materials.

Record Keeping & Clerical Duties

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all incoming and outgoing items.
  • Submit daily activity records to the Supervisor at the end of each shift.
  • Perform general clerical duties related to departmental operations.

General Duties

  • Tidy and secure the work area at the end of each shift.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned within the Central Sterile Supply Department.

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Secondary school leaving certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Good physical and mental health.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
  • Ability to lift, move supplies, and navigate stairs during duties.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and good attendance.
  • Ability to always maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with co-workers and supervisors.

Working Conditions

  • Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM; Weekends & Public Holidays, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
  • May be required to respond to urgent sterilisation needs after hours.
  • Physical Requirements: Prolonged standing, moderate lifting, and work in high-temperature environments.
