Duties and Responsibilities
General Responsibilities:
Check oxygen cylinders at the holding bank to ensure appropriate levels; confirm that regulators are functioning at full capacity with no leaks.
Replenish the loading banks as required.
Promptly remove all full medical gas cylinders from the delivery area to the load bank.
Disconnect and remove empty medical gas cylinders from the loading bank to the collection area.
Provide and adjust equipment for patient safety and comfort, including side rails.
Disinfect and wipe down equipment (e.g., wheelchairs, stretchers) with approved cleaning products between patient transports.
Transport patients and patient-related articles to and from different units.
Provide support to other team members when required.
Transport medical supplies and equipment to various hospital areas.
Transport discharged patients from bedside to curbside in wheelchairs (or stretchers where applicable).
Transport deceased persons from units to the SLBMC morgue, when required.
Assist in moving patients in and out of bed as requested.
Assist in turning and restraining patients as directed.
Safeguard patients/clients in their care from environmental dangers.
Perform any other related duties as assigned.
Minimum of five (5) CSEC/GCE passes, including English Language.
Must be neatly groomed and uniformed for duty.
Demonstrate good patient relations skills and courteous manners.
Ability to work under stress in a fast-paced environment.
Must demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and good attendance.
Ability to be on feet for the majority of the day.
Ability to climb and descend stairs as part of normal duties.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, visitors, and other SLBMC personnel.
Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
Strong communication skills with the ability to interact well with patients of all ages.
Good physical and mental health.
Understanding of confidentiality requirements and commitment to maintaining them.
The Orderly reports directly to the Minor Support Services Coordinator or his/her designate and collaborates closely with department heads, hospital management, and external stakeholders.
Timely and accurate management of patient transfers, equipment, and supplies.
Consistent adherence to safety protocols and infection control measures.
Maintenance of a high standard of customer service and patient care.
Participation in relevant training programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
Effective mentorship and support of new team members.
