Medical & Surgical Units

Your Partners in Healing

Sometimes, getting back to your best self requires a level of care and attention that can only be found within our hospital walls. At Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, our Medical and Surgical Units are designed to be a safe, supportive home away from home for children aged 16 and older, as well as adults, who need dedicated medical treatment or are recovering from surgery.

Our Commitment to You

Our primary goal is to provide more than just clinical excellence; we aim to create a warm, healing environment for both our patients and their families. We understand that hospitalization is a significant journey, and our team is here to meet your needs with compassion, expertise, and the personalized care our community deserves.

158 Beds
Patient Capacity Setup

Our clinical units feature an adaptable blend of private and semi-private rooms meticulously tailored to your unique comfort, privacy, and post-operative recovery needs.

Preparing for Your Stay

We want you to feel as comfortable as possible. While we completely provide all core clinical essentials, bringing a few personal items can help make your room feel more like home.

Essentials to Pack
Essential Documents

Please bring a valid photo ID, your Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS) card, and/or your private insurance card to streamline admission.

Personal Comfort

Pack loose, loose-fitting clothing (such as pajamas and a comfortable robe) alongside reliable non-slip safety slippers.

Personal Toiletries

While basic essentials remain available, many patients prefer bringing their own toothbrush, paste, and unscented deodorants.

Stay Connected

Feel free to bring books, tablets, or phones. We provide free wireless internet access across most areas to keep you close to family.

What to Leave Behind

To keep your personal property safely accounted for, we highly recommend securing the following items safely at home prior to your clinical intake registration:

  • Fine jewelry, rings, and premium watches
  • Large amounts of cash or high-value currency
  • Unnecessary electronic devices or luxury assets
